FAQs
Can you work in my state/province/country?
Yes, we are able to help! We actively have attorneys called to the Bar in British Columbia (and can practice in Ontario) and Florida on our team. In the past, we've had lawyers from California, New York, Pennsylvania and New Jersey on our team. We work with clients all over the US, Canada, the UK and elsewhere. We only take on work we feel comfortable to advise our clients in and we stick to drafting the same five or six agreements which typically relate to general legal principles and are always industry specific. We know the laws around these industries, and we know how they operate on a practical level. If we are ever unsure of something, we have a wide network of attorneys across the globe who can answer industry-specific questions.
Are hours billed while working with someone from Conscious Counsel?
Most law firms charge you an hourly rate, prorated in six-minute increments, charging time for everything from sending you an email, to doing legal research, and even looking at your website. We don’t do that. For our core services of preparing legal agreements, we charge a fixed sum that is quoted to you before you decide to hire us. For additional services outside of our core work, we may charge an hourly rate based on the estimated time of work to complete the job, but this is incredibly rare.
Can you teach me about what I need to know about law?
For sure! We have an online course, Heart-Leading Law, which gives you the ins and outs of legally running a business. Cory also regularly appears on podcasts and webinars to teach about law. Join our email list to know about upcoming webinars, and find some of our favorite podcast episodes here.
Do you know about taxes?
No. Tax is not our area of expertise and therefore we recommend you consult with an accountant for tax-related questions.
What about insurance?
We always recommend that our clients get insurance coverage for their business and relevant needs in case something happens. We do not help you apply for insurance, but our clients love beYogi and Massage Magazine Insurance Plus.
How do I use my documents?
To be at best practices, we recommend:
1) Waiver of Liability is always in a separate document and must be clicked 'I agree' before they are allowed to work with you;
2) Privacy Policy must be a separate footer on the website, along with Terms & Conditions;
3) Service Agreement should be separate and must be agreed to before you provide services or accept payment.
